This 6 acre property has a large lawn leading down to the 300 ft bluff where you can pick a  salad from the 30 x 72 foot greenhouse. A trail leads through birch, alder, and spruce along the small creek to the bluff where you can smell the sea, watch ravens,  eagles, and gulls soar at eye level and view rafts of otters floating beyond the beach.

We built the apartment over the Garagemahal as a view toward the future in case someday we need a caretaker or may even move up there ourselves someday.  Plus it just seemed like a fun thing to do to take advantage of the space and view. A couple years ago we stayed in a VRBO in Hawaii and found it  more relaxing and personal than other choices and thought, “ Hum, this might be fun to give a go at our place. ” And it has been! We have met people from Europe, Central America, Korea, Japan, and from many different states and it has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. Many of the folks we’ve met have wanted to stay in touch or just want to see a picture of how the gardens are doing or how some project is coming along. I am hoping that this website might be a format for that.

We plan to keep doing the vacation bookings through Homeaway.com but thought this might be a way for people to stay in touch, learn a little more about our place, and have a way they can share their own comments and pictures about their stay. Since I have a bit of an affliction for building things, Robbie is keen on gardening, and we both value a close relationship with nature we think like-minded people will enjoy the contact and new visitors will really like it here. We love to travel and meet people from different places and cultures which is the primary inspiration for having a vacation rental. I think we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and it is good energy and a great pleasure to share this with others.  Hope you enjoy the pictures and thank you to those who gave us permission to use your photos.

A bit about us

I first came to Alaska in 1976. In 1977 I began a journey around the world that lasted four and half years. In 1982 I settled back into Alaska in earnest. I built a cabin across Kachemak Bay, then began building our home on the Homer Bluff in 1995. Everything on our property is custom built, including your lodging. The timber frame portion of our house is made from beetle-killed spruce off this land. I have worked in mineral exploration, carpentry, fishing, as a teacher, and presently as an RN in our local hospital in the Emergency Department. I met my wife, Robbie, the green thumb of the family, in our hospital in 1989. Our daughter, Hailey is in college.
